“DIVIDED STATES” by Voice Of Addiction

Voice Of Addiction are politically charged and socially conscious Chicago based punk-rockers. V.o.A. has been around since 2004 doing over 1,500 shows across North America.

The impression of the thirteen track album “Divided States” is ambiguous though. On one side, it is driving and calming; you can easily listen for the whole day in the same breath. On the other hand, if you listen to it more than once, you’ll probably notice in general, that Divided States sounds rather stupefy. The most comfy part of the song is the main vocals by V.O.A. Energetic and infectiously catchy, Divided States expands on V.O.A distinct sound with strong production quality and a uniquely modern sound. Also on a positive note, “Divided States” is not jarring to listen to.

Moreover, how the lyrics combine with the music worked well throughout the whole album. Some parts of the songs are strong and well driven. “Division Complex” which opens up the album is a pretty sweet track. ”Wrong Turn” reflects on the trials and tribulations that come with decisions as it ends the album. Something that can make you feel better than anything else also has the ability to do the opposite. V.O.A passionately explores this duality in an approachable and catchy way.

Through both the instrumentals and the groovy score, they managed to be personable and down to Earth. As memorable as it is just enjoyable to listen to. At the end of the day, what truly matters is how nice an album is to listen to, and “Divided States” is absolutely phenomenal. There’s no better time to dive into their euphoric sound.
