DIVING AT DAWN - "LYING BY MYSELF"

Diving At Dawn is a one-man band comprising of Pete Hobbs, better known as the music-providing half of indie-pop duo The Boy Least Likely To. Pete grew up in Aylesbury but moved to London to seek his musical good fortune. He is influenced by Milan Kundera, Van Halen, Wings, Garth Merenghi, Battlestar Galactica and reruns of Rising Damp.

Lying By Myself is the latest release from Diving At Dawn, the solo project of Pete Hobbs from indie pop legends The Boy Least Likely To. Very much a one man band, Diving At Dawn is inspired by the series of eponymously titled solo albums by Paul McCartney- McCartney I, II and III. Pete plays, sings, records and mixes everything himself.

“I’ve always found working by myself a frustrating experience. I’m my own worst enemy and a dreadful over thinker, my hard drive is full of abandoned Diving At Dawn recordings. But during the pandemic there was nowhere to hide and I had to find ways to be productive alone. The new Diving At Dawn releases are the result of me learning to get out of my own way and trust myself, it’s all been a bit cathartic, difficult and slow but cathartic.”

The resulting music is beautiful and introspective, featuring softly picked classical guitars, chiming pianos and multi layered vocals. Lying By Myself is a breakup song, the break up is mutual but that doesn’t mean it’s easy to move on from.

Lying By Myself is released on 24th Feb 2023 by Light Entertainment Records.
