“DUBSTAR” by Desh.Dubs

Desh is an artist, researcher, and social activist. Starting from an early age as a rapper, he managed to make a name for himself and collaborated and worked with the likes of the Black-Pact, the Rap Prophets, and the Zambezi Symphony. Together, they managed to shake Zambia with legendary songs and performances that reached far beyond national borders.

In 2006, he joined the Art Science Department of the Royal Academy of Arts in the Hague (the Netherlands), the Royal Conservatory and the Media Department of the University of Leiden, where he combined his music with visual arts. He continued his work with the university, by completing his Master-degree in African Studies. He has continued to take a critical look at academia and its role in society, by studying how African Studies have been interpreting features of African heritage.

DUBSTAR ’ today on August 7, 2022. He has a smooth and ethereal sound released and does a great job at providing those hard-hitting relatable deep cuts. Love the complementary work of the bass drum, deep and anchoring and bringing out all of the colors and nuances of the lead and rhythmic vocals. And it keeps moving and evolving. Not forgotten the clever chorus that joins the driving verses which made the score one gem to be reckoned with.

Desh writes his music from a place of real emotions and experience, which develops well into this deeper lyricism. You might have heard him on the radio or playlist much with his previous releases like Moye, Champion and Above the Wicked album. Yet this is such a wonderful piece that preludes to an entrancing collection of songs.
