authentic Lithuanian folk songs + electronic music
Elektroninės Sutartinės is a project by producer/guitarist Victor Diawara(also known for his afro / electronic project Afrodelic)and folklore researcher/performer Laurita Peleniūtė-paying homage to their Lithuanian roots and to ancient traditional Lithuanian folk songs.
A project blending traditional Lithuanian songs with modern beats/grooves and electronic sounds, thus introducing a new audience to this art form inscribed in 2010 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity (UNESCO).
Although the album "Elektronines Sutartines" was released in 2021 Victor Diawara is only now releasing the first video / single "Kukal' Roze Ratilio" due to a successfull album release and European tour with his other project Afrodelic.
Future plans include the release of 2-3 more videos from the debut album by summer 2023. Victor Diawara is already working a new material for a follow up album in late 2023 with Lithuanian folklore specialist and singer Laurita Peleniute who sang all vocals on the first album as well.
"Sutartinės" is a syncretic art form based on interlinking polyphonic music, lyrics and movements performed by female singers in north-east Lithuania. The concept of "Sutartinės” immediately takes many people's thoughts to ancient times. However, the debut album by V. Diawara and L. Peleniūtėis definitely not for museums.
The duo build a bridge between folklore and the modern listener, and invite you to discover authentic Lithuanian folk songs “sutartinės” in a different context. The aim is to make Lithuanian heritage music more accessible, especially to young people, and to present it to the world.
According to singer L. Peleniūtė, one of the goals of the album was to maintain the authenticity of the traditional song-both in terms of dialects and melodies. This is what makes "Elektroninés sutartinės" stand out in the context of contemporary folk music.
“Authentically performed songs can allow a modern day person to return in time and feel those who lived two or three hundred years ago", says L. Peleniūtė.
