From the very beginning of Zoka The Author's career in 2017, his uncommon lyrical precision has set him apart from his contemporaries. In these first few years, not only did he successfully tour a collaborative Hip Hop/poetry album around the UK, but he also achieved international recognition in news outlets across the world for creating a rap album for his dissertation and getting a First for it!
Having managed to grow in 2020 despite its massive challenges, it is clear that Zoka is
determined to surpass expectations, and push the sound of UK Hip Hop to new territories.
The impression of his five track EP “Flower, Girl, pt. 1 is ambiguous though. On one side, it is relaxing and calming; you can easily listen for the whole day in the same breath. On the other hand, if you listen to it more than once, you’ll probably notice in general, that this EP sounds rather stupefy. The most comfy part of the song is the main vocals by Zoka the Author. Energetic and infectiously catchy, the EP expands on Zoka’s distinct sound with strong production quality and a uniquely modern sound.
Also on a positive note, “Flower, Girl, pt. 1” is not jarring to listen to. Moreover, how the heartfelt lyrics combine with the music worked well. Some parts of the songs are rhymed and well chorused. Vulnerable and honest, “Flower, Girl, pt. 1” reflects on the trials and tribulations that come with love. Something that can make you feel better than anything else also has the ability to do the opposite. Zoka passionately explores this duality in an approachable and catchy way.
Through both the poetic verses and the groovy chorus he manages to be personable and down to Earth. As memorable as it is just enjoyable to listen to. At the end of the day, what truly matters is how nice an EP is to listen to, and “Flower, Girl, pt. 1” is absolutely phenomenal. There’s no better time to dive into his euphoric sound. Stream “Flower, Girl, pt. 1” now!
