The Wood marks the fourth album from Australian singer-songwriter Amanda Emblem. Here, she shifts focus toward an acoustic-driven folk journey steeped in reflection and storytelling. The title is borrowed from one of the most contemplative tracks, tying the album’s theme back to nature and memory.
The record begins with “Hanging Flute,” an instrumental piece filled with noir-like mystery, where flute lines drift above retro guitar tones. Soon after, “Calm Seas” slows the rhythm into something dreamier, almost cinematic. The lead single, “Storm in My Life,” offers a lighter mood. With playful fingerpicking and harmonica, Amanda sings about turbulence in love as if it were changing weather, balancing intimacy with humor.
The title track, “The Wood,” unfolds gently, inspired by a lightning-struck White Cedar guitar. Here, the lyrics capture both childhood wonder and the cycles of nature. Later, “Nananah” celebrates music and togetherness, while “Thousands of Songs,” co-written with Kelly King, leans toward singalong territory.

This album feels rooted in a place between tradition and modernity, echoing Laurel Canyon folk while remaining distinctly personal. The production by Andy Tainsh stays understated, letting the voice and instruments carry the weight.
