Sugar Water

Sugar Water – Polybit Remix transforms an intimate alternative pop track about first queer love into a fast-paced drum and bass anthem. The original, a collaboration between Melbourne’s Okayden and Sydney’s VRDA, captured the uncertainty and tenderness of those early feelings. This remix—crafted with UK producer Polybit—pushes that emotion onto the dance floor without losing its heart.

From the first beat, sharp percussion and quick, rolling rhythms create urgency. VRDA’s vocals, already chopped and reversed in the original, are further twisted and reshaped by Polybit, making them feel both distant and immediate. Lines about love’s first rush now sit over a driving bassline that refuses to rest. The track’s pace mirrors the way new emotions can overwhelm—intense, unrelenting, but thrilling.

Culturally, this remix speaks to how electronic music can reframe personal stories. It keeps the tenderness intact while presenting it in a form that belongs in late-night club sets. The global collaboration—spanning Melbourne, Sydney, and wherever Polybit was traveling—reflects the borderless nature of modern music-making.

As the closing piece of Okayden’s remix project, it feels like a bold farewell. It works because it respects the original’s meaning while giving it a new pulse. The result is alive, memorable, and built to move both body and heart.
